UNITED WAY BALLET
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMMING IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS
WBC—once again partnering with United Way of Westchester and Putnam—is offering after-school ballet classes at Winfield L. Morse Elementary School in Sleepy Hollow; Highview Elementary in Greenburgh; Brookside Elementary in Ossining; and, now, Tappan Hill Elementary in Tarrytown.
In these supportive after-school classes, students of all backgrounds explore basic dance technique, stretching, and choreography—while also building confidence, healthy emotional expression, and core social-emotional skills like empathy and perseverance. Ballet promotes discipline and focus, but also creativity, collaboration, and a strong sense of belonging.
Enrollment has grown from just 10 students to more than 100 in only three years. We’re eager to see how many new dancers will join us as the program continues to flourish. And with this momentum, is our goal of reaching 200 students really too ambitious? We don’t think so.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Westchester Ballet Company, in collaboration with our community partner Rising Above Boundaries, has delivered two iterations of a program called First Position - in Spring 2022 and Fall 2023. First Position offers no-cost ballet instruction, attire, and footwear to children ages 7 to 10.
