Building Strong Dancers. Nurturing Amazing Human Beings.
This page explores how our mission transforms lives — not just through technique and stage time, but through discipline, teamwork, confidence, and connection.
Westchester Ballet Company (WBC) is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of our community through the art of ballet. We believe in building not only strong dancers but also nurturing amazing human beings.
While our professionally produced performances—such as The Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf, and other repertory ballets—are some of our most visible work, they represent only one facet of what we do. At WBC, we embrace a broad mission: nurturing artistic excellence, removing barriers, and ensuring that ballet is accessible to everyone.
We serve three core groups in and around Westchester County, NY:
Local schoolchildren who receive free or low-cost ballet classes through our after-school programs.
Young dancers ages 6–18 who receive specialized training and performance opportunities in high-quality, professional-level productions.
Our community audience of over 10,000 people each year, who enjoy affordable, inspiring performances.
Our mission comes to life through:
Removing financial barriers with scholarships and financial aid.
Maintaining affordable ticket prices for all audiences.
Partnering with other nonprofits to serve children and families in the region.
Being part of WBC means being part of something bigger than a performance—it’s being part of a community committed to artistic excellence, inclusivity, and the belief that ballet has the power to inspire and unite.
Every Role Matters
Ballet is collaborative:
Leads carry the story, but cannot tell it alone
Ensembles create energy, atmosphere, and emotion
Character roles add humor, drama, and depth
Younger dancers bring joy and charm
We value:
Artistry, dedication, and presence—not just stage time
The ensemble as the foundation of storytelling
Each role as a learning opportunity
A ballet is like a puzzle: every piece matters.
Ballet Skills for Life: What Dancers Take With Them
At Westchester Ballet Company, we know ballet is more than technique or performance—it builds character. The discipline, structure, and focus required at the barre foster essential life skills. Here’s how these habits support dancers’ growth academically, professionally, and personally.
In Dance:
Routine and discipline; Focus and attention to detail; Perseverance through corrections; Emotional regulation; Confidence and body awareness; Respect and teamwork; Goal-setting and self-motivation
In Life:
Academic responsibility; Critical thinking and study skills; Resilience in the face of challenges; Calm under pressure; Positive self-image and presence; Collaboration in school and future careers; Motivation and long-term planning
Even if dancers don’t pursue ballet professionally, WBC gives them tools for a successful, well-rounded life.
Behind the Curtain: It Takes a Village
WBC productions are collaborative efforts involving:
Choreographers, teachers, and artistic staff
Costume, lighting, and technical crews
Board members and administrators
Parent volunteers
Final Thoughts
At WBC, your child doesn’t just join a cast—they join a community of artists, educators, and families. We honor the process as much as the performance, and we believe ballet has the power to inspire and transform lives.
